Cult Clash: Four Confirmed Dead In Imo

As the rivalry between some cult gangs in Ohaji/Egbema in Imo State persists, at least four members were reported dead in the wake of the crisis yesterday.

Three of the victims were said to have been killed at Obiakpu Egbema in Ohaji/Egbema local government area of the state last week while another, simply identified as Ike, was killed along Douglas road, Owerri at the weekend.

Ike who hails from Isiochi in Umunochi LGA of Abia State was alleged to have been hacked down by a rival cult group at about 7pm while walking along the road.

Meanwhile, residents of Obiaokpu community in Egbema have deserted their ancestral homes for fear of being arrested by the police.

The transition committee chairman of Ohaji/Egbema, Hon Gedion Mefor, confirmed the incident to LEADERSHIP, adding that most of the natives of the area are now seeking asylum at the neighbouring state, Rivers.

Mefor, however, gave the assurance that normalcy would soon be restored to the community.

When contacted, the Imo State police public relations officer, Andrew Enwerem, claimed ignorance to the incidents, maintaining that he had not been officially briefed.
