Insurgency, banditry major security challenges of Niger — CP

The Niger State Commissioner of Police, Ogundele Ayodeji has listed banditry, kidnapping and youth restiveness as major challenges confronting the state.

He noted that these ills have remained the major challenges in Niger villages sharing borders with states such as Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina and Zamfara.

The police boss stated this on Tuesday when he hosted the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7 at the command’s headquarters AIG Adeboeale Willaims

He said, “As mentioned earlier, insurgency, armed banditry and kidnapping cases remain a challenge in villages bordering Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi and Zamfara States. Our attention has always been on Mariga, Rafi, Munya, Rijau, and Shiroro Local Government Areas.

“Usually experienced in Minna and Kontagora parts of the State, the Command had embarked on massive raids of black spots in conjunction with other security agencies in the state through which many of the thugs disturbing the peace in the metropolis were arrested and prosecuted. This has ensured relative peace in the metropolis, while close monitoring continues.”

Ayodeji also presented the AIG with the need of the command which he said would enhance the work and boost the morale of the operatives.

In his remarks, the AIG Williams noted that the force is in the eye of the storm in the country presently because as an institution they are responsible for addressing every breach of the peace in the various States of the country.

He said as a body vested with the responsibility to ensure peace and security, it is imperative that they are well equipped with the logistics and capability required to combat insecurity. He assured the command that the Police High Command would address their needs.
