Our assessment of Buhari’s performance – AD chieftain

Forum of Political Parties in Lagos State has evaluated the infrastructure development performance of the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as it nears its end.

The Chairman of FPP, a political group representing registered and deregistered political parties in Lagos State, Kolawole Ajayi, who is also a chieftain of the Alliance for Democracy, stated that Buhari’s regime deserves recognition for its infrastructure development efforts.

Ajayi acknowledged that Nigerians had high expectations of Buhari’s regime, but the President did his best.

He admitted that Buhari’s regime could not fully address the issues of security, economy, and anti-corruption fight as expected by Nigerians.

He said, “Buhari tried in infrastructure. Just this week he also inaugurated the Second Niger Bridge connecting Delta and Anambra as well as a private refinery in Lagos, among other infrastructure.”

Ajayi, the Lagos State Chairman of Alliance for Democracy, stated that the performance of Buhari’s regime was impressive in the Ministry of Transportation, but not so much in other ministries.

He said that the President could not sustain the fight against corruption until the end of his administration.

He said, “We thought he would come and fight corruption headlong but the same corruption has gone high in the country.

“The agency fighting corruption, what it does is selectively fight against corruption. It should have been total, not sparing any sacred cow.

“It is sad to hear that some people being invited by the anti-corruption agencies and are still moving about while some others are giving the agency excuses on when to be available for interrogation.”

According to Ajayi, although Buhari’s regime made some progress in fighting Boko Haram, the president could have done more to address the issue of banditry, which has resulted in the loss of many lives.

He also believed that the President should have implemented sustainable policies to address the country’s security, economic, and corruption challenges. Ajayi further stated that the high debt burden on the nation did not improve the standard of living, and Buhari’s administration did not do much to unite the country as it remained divided.

Ajayi expressed that the incoming administration of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, should have proper planning to help the country overcome its challenges and provide hope to the suffering masses.

Although he expressed hope that the incoming administration would reposition the country on the path of development.

“He is a knowledgeable and experienced person who knows how to manage the people and the resources. He will handle the challenges,” he said.
