Kidnapped Man Robbed Of N800,000 And Dumped By A Pond Side In Jigawa After His Family Failed To Pay N5m Ransom

A 45-year-old Nigerian man has been found unconscious after he was kidnapped in Jigawa State.

He was found unconscious at a local pond in Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Adamu Shehu, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, October 15, 2022, identified the victim as Malam Dauda, a staff of Local Education Authority in Garki LGA.

Upon regaining consciousness at the hospital, the victim narrated how he was kidnapped after withdrawing N800,000 from a bank on Wednesday.

According to Dauda, the kidnappers took him to a building where they kept other hostages, collected the N800,000 and demanded N5m as ransom from his family.

The victim said he told his family not to pay the ransom. As a result, the kidnappers made him inhale something which made him unconscious.

"One Malam B. Dauda, aged 45 of Maigatarin Bawan Allah Village, Garki LGA was found unconscious by the pond side along Gumel-Babura Road in Sule Tankarkar LGA opposite LGA Secretariat on Thursday, 13th of October, 2022 at about 0730hrs," the statement read.

"The victim after regaining consciousness in a Primary Health Care Center in Sule Tankarkar LGA where he was taken by NSCDC personnel narrated that he was kidnapped in Dutse LGA on Wednesday, 12th of October, 2022 along Dutse-Kiyawa Road after he collected the sum of N800,000 from his Bank. He said to have boarded a taxi by the roadside which was meant to convey him to Garki LGA.

"He stated that while he was trying to board a motorbike to the motor park, a taxi pulled over and the driver asked him where he is traveling to, when he told him he's travelling to Garki, the driver told him to enter the vehicle as he's also going the same way. He entered the vehicle which already has other people in it.

"He said when they reached Sule Tankarkar LGA, it was already dark and from there he couldn't locate where they headed to, only to find himself in one building together with other hostages, one amongst them told him he came to Jigawa to purchase beans but was kidnapped and taken there.

"His family were contacted by the kidnappers to bring the sum of N5,000,000 as ransom which he told them not to. As a result, they made him inhale something which made him unconscious, only to wake up in the Hospital and told he was found by the pond side along Gumel-Babura Road in Sule Tankarkar opposite LGA Secretariat. The victim is a Staff of Local Education Authority in Garki LGA.

"While the Command is working assiduously alongside other security formations to apprehend those involved and rescue the remaining kidnapped victims, the general public are advised not to board taxis outside motor parks, so as not fall prey to criminal elements and their hideous plans, but should patronized motor parks and other designated places for their movements."
