Mothers to disclose sex partners in child support cases

The German Government on Monday said it would make it legally mandatory for women to disclose their sexual partners in order to identify children’s biological father in child-support cases.

A draft law circulated by the Justice Ministry said that a mother should be required to disclose “who she slept with during the time of conception” if asked by a man who was paying child-support.

“There would only be exceptions to this law if there are serious reasons. Men, who successfully contest their paternity would be able to claim back child-support payments for a period of two years,” the draft legislation states without specifying further.

The draft law is due for approval by the cabinet of Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday.
