Reactions as Ogun State invites the public to monitor criminal cases against defendant police officers
The Ogun State government has taken action towards meeting one of the demands made by the End SARS protesters.
Nigerian youths released a list of demands tagged the 5 for 5 which should show that the government was serious about ending SARS. Protests continued when these demands weren't met.
One of the demands made is: "Setting up and independent body to oversee the investigation & prosecution of all reports of police misconduct (within 10 days).
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ogun State, just released a statement inviting the public to monitor criminal cases against defendant police officers in Ogun State.
Four different cases of police brutality are up for hearing soon and it was promised that additional cases will be added "as soon as charges to be filed against defendants are concluded."
Members of the public have also been invited to submit "petitions or information on humans rights abuses by security personnel" to the Ogun State End SARS judicial panel.
Nigerian youths reacted, praising Ogun State for taking the road and doing what other states should emulate.
