The Boys Star Hints At Homelander v Starlight Fight In Season 2

The Boys star Erin Moriarty hints at a possible fight between Homelander (Antony Starr) and Starlight coming in season two. One of the popular superhero show's lead cast members, Moriarty plays Starlight, a member of the Seven who successfully leaked a sample of Compound V to the media. However, her hesitation to kill Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid) put Starlight on Homelander's murderous radar, and the two characters have had a tension-filled relationship ever since.

Although Starlight was successful in getting the world to find out how Vought International really made superheroes, her heroic efforts appear to have been in vain so far. Vought blamed Compound V on Madelyn Stillwell (Elisabeth Shue), and made it appear as if Stormfront (Aya Cash) had successfully killed Kimiko's (Karen Fukuhara) brother Kenji (Abraham Lim), and blamed him for the terrible slaughter of a building full of innocent people. In case things weren't already bad enough either, Starlight barely made it out of an elevator alive in episode four, after Homelander nearly killed her for disobeying his order to kill Hughie. Rather than backing down from Homelander's wrath though, the character stood up for herself, continuing her growth this season. But her growing defiance doesn't necessarily mean she's any more free from Homelander's rage.

In a recent interview with SyFy Wire, Moriarty talked in detail about Starlight's character development throughout The Boys season 2. Moriarty also teased that Homelander's relationship with his son will greatly impact the villain's mood in the new season, and that a moment of defiance from Starlight may come at a time when Homelander's mood is yet again at a low point. That, unfortunately, means fans may be in store for another tense confrontation between the two characters this season:

Homelander is the head of The Seven...Whatever he is going through has a ripple effect through all of Vought... He’s a moody dude. So, if he’s not feeling too good and he’s having a bad mood, everyone is going to feel it, especially Starlight because she’s pretty defiant and rebellious. All I will say is that he has a tumultuous relationship with this child in Season 2. At times, when that relationship is dipping and Annie is maybe in a peak of defiance, she is definitely going to feel his wrath.https://i0.wp.com/storage.waploaded.com/images/6fa2a1da1f4f634788a87e74347680aa.jpg

Do Moriarty's comments mean that the remaining four episodes of The Boys season two could feature a Homelander versus Starlight battle? Moriarty did acknowledge later in the same interview that, "One wrong step and Homelander would kill her," further teasing the tense conflict between the two characters this season. It's also worth noting that The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has previously said that Homelander's only weakness is psychological attacks, which means Starlight would have a hard time winning any kind of physical confrontation with Homelander. To make matters worse, Stormfront appears to be getting in Homelander's head more and more this season, and the already violent character only seems to be getting more unpredictable as a result.

No matter what, it's hard to imagine an actual fight between Homelander and Starlight going at all well for the latter character. It seems unlikely that Homelander would be killed off anytime soon, as the character has slipped quite comfortably into the show's lead villain role. There's been nothing to suggest up until this point that the show would want to get rid of a villain as dangerous as Homelander anytime soon either, especially since The Boys has already been renewed for a third season. However, The Boys is all about subverting expectations, so the future of its story is about as unpredictable as Homelander's mood. It definitely would be an empowering moment for Starlight to take on Homelander, and even more so if she managed to make it out of the battle alive. Based on Moriarty's comments too, it seems inevitable that the two characters will come to blows at some point this season, but for now, fans will have to wait and see when (and if) that possibility comes to fruition over the course of the season's remaining episodes.
