We are confident of victory against Spain – D’Tigers star, Akognon

One of the Nigeria men’s basketball team players, Josh Akognon, has said they were hoping to bow out of this year’s Olympics in style.
D’Tigers are as good as eliminated from the competition, after they lost their opening two games and even a win over Spain in their next match, might not secure them a place in the next round.

Akognon, who plays for Dinnamo Sassari in Italy, is however confident that they can improve from their previous performances.

“They are going to be on their game as well, we are both zero-and-two, so we are both kind of fighting for our lives right now,” he told CompleteSports.

“We are going to come out with even more intensity against them and we are going to learn from our mistakes this time.”

Reflecting on their second game against Lithuania, the 30-year-old admitted they were under pressure.

“We came out in the second half and just kept pressing the point and when we lost that five-point lead we started scrambling, taking quick shots and it all went bad,” Akognon added.

Nigeria will take on Croatia and Brazil after the Spain game.
