Young Nigerian artistes sing foolishness, scared to sing ‘reality’ – Ras Kimono

Veteran reggae artiste, Ras Kimono, has stated that young Nigerian music acts do not make sense in their songs as they are afraid of singing the reality.

He lambasted the new crop of musicians, guessing that they are scared to sing realities in their song for fear of the unknown.

Describing them as singing foolishness, the renowend songster told Vangaurd that he is angry over the spate at which good music has gone down the drain in the country.

He said, “None of the new crop of artistes now are doing real reggae. They are afraid to sing reality. They’re all about bum-bum and such mundane things.

“They’re all singing about foolishness and nothingness. Look at what is happening in the country today; the president is also doubling as the Minister for Petroleum, and nobody is talking about it. I’m angry.”

Kimono refuted the claim that reggae music is dead in Nigeria.

He said, “As long as Ras Kimono lives, then reggae is still alive in Nigeria. If reggae is dead, you won’t come and talk to me now.”

The ‘Rum-Bar Stylee’ master added that he cannot point out any artiste he would want to work with as there was no link whatsoever.

He said, “Which of them would I like to work with, or which of them would like to work with me? Anyway, none of them is doing real reggae, so I’m confused and paranoid about working with any of them.”
