Tenebe said Nigeria records an excess of 1million students yearly from prospective university admission seekers due to the inability of the existing 124 universities to admit above the current 500,000 carrying capacity.
He said NOUN started academic activities in 2003 and has presence in the 36 states of the federation and the federal capital territory.
“124 universities cannot only admit 500,000 students, the carrying capacities of these universities is always stretched.

NOUN can admit 1million students and they will get the same quality education.

Any student graduating from NOUN will be graduating at par with students of other universities across Nigeria,”Tenebe said.

The vice chancellor revealed that the reason why the university authority invited Ahmed Isa was because the open and distance learning is still new to many Nigerians hence, the university want to utilise any form of communication to sensitise the public.

He stated that getting education through open and distance learning prepares graduates for work with less supervision in the future.
Adding that the system has been utilised in nations like China, India, Indonesia, United Kingdom and the United States of America to educate millions of their citizens.

He said China in particular, has used the system to educate 500million of its citizens in just 15 years.
While urging Nigerians to take advantage of the democratised system of learning at the university to increase literacy level in the country as NOUN will have a study centre in each of the 774 LGAs in the next 15 years.
