Photos: Australia launches giant condom ahead of World AIDS day

The giant condom will remain on the obelisk until Wednesday, November 12, 2014.
An 18-metre-high giant condom has been erected on an obelisk statue at Hyde Park in Sydney,Australia.

The giant condom, in pink colour, was placed on a statue on Friday, November 7, 2014, as part of awareness ahead of the World AIDS day, which is billed for Monday, December 1, 2014.

According to reports, the giant condom will remain on the obelisk until Wednesday, November 12, 2014 in a campaign being run by New South Wales agency ACON for HIV prevention as part of the safe sex education campaign ‘I’M ON’ that the organisation has been running in the city for the last few weeks.

(HIV/AIDS) is a disease spectrum of the human immune system caused by infection with human immunodeficiency virus, following initial infection, a person may experience a brief period of influenza-like illness. This is typically followed by a prolonged period without symptoms. As the infection progresses, it interferes more and more with the immune system, making the person much more susceptible to common infections like tuberculosis, as well as opportunistic infections and tumors that do not usually affect people who have working immune systems.

AIDS was first clinically observed in 1981 in theUnited Statesand has since become regarded as one of the most dreaded viruses the world has seen.
