A suspected political thug, Oluwaseun Ade, was on Monday paraded by the Ondo State Police Command at the headquarters in Akure, the state capital.




Ade, was arrested with some ammunitions such as pump action guns, live machetes, press uniforms, camera, Identification Card (ID) live cartridges among others.

He was apprehended at the military checking point along Igbokoda axis in Ilaje local government by men of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Owena Barracks.


The State Police Commissioner, Hilda Ibifuro- Harrison, while parading the suspect, refused to disclosed the name of the political party the suspect is working with.

She said he was arrested last Friday by soldiers and handed over to the police for prosecution.

The Police Commissioner said the suspect was caught with machetes, guns and live cartridges in a branded bus belonging to a political party.

“Investigation is still ongoing and he is talking to us about how he got in possession of these ammunitions and the case will be diligently investigated” she said.


The Police boss, however warned that the command would not tolerate any criminal activity in the state.

But Ade, while speaking with reporters, denied the allegation.

He described himself as a photographer, who was directed by a brother of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) governorship candidate, Chief Olusola Oke to take his pictures during rallies.

Ade claimed to have missed the vehicle that normally convoy press men from Oke’s house to rallies.

“On Friday, I was informed that we would be going to Ilaje and I don’t know the place. When I got to Oke’s house, I met a branded bus and I asked them if they will be going to Ilaje? They said yes.

“When will get to military checking point, the driver, immediately he sited the soldiers, started turning the vehicle and I asked why he was doing so but he refused to listen.

“Those in the bus absconded when the military began searching the bus but I waited because my camera was inside the bus. That was how I was apprehended”.

Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner said the command would be deploying more than 25,000 police officers for the election.

The police boss said officers from the Police Headquarters, Abuja have arrived the state ahead of the saturday poll.

She said they will be deployed to the nooks and crannies comprising 203 registration areas and the 3009 polling units.

The Police bos added: “I want to advise everyone to be law abiding so that everybody will feel safe”.
