The official cause of the late Prodigy‘s death has been revealed. Nearly two months after the rap legend’s untimely passing at the age of 42, TMZ reports that P died choking on an egg while he was being treated at a Las Vegas hospital.

The Mobb Deep rapper passed away while hospitalized in Las Vegas for complications caused by sickle cell anemia. Clark County’s medical examiner ruled Prodigy actually died from "accidental choking," TMZ reporting that an egg was involved.

P was battling with sickle cell anaemia - a condition in which red blood cells contort into a sickle shape and die early, leaving a shortage of healthy red blood cells that can lead to a painful blockage of blood flow. For the rapper, trips to the hospital were just a part of life as someone who’d dealt with sickle cell anemia for decades, so no one expected him to die once he checked into the Vegas hospital.
