Nobody destroys facilities meant to help them – Osinbajo tells militants

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has stated that the damaging of pipelines and oil installations in the Niger Delta amounts to the destruction of facilities meant to help the people of the region, pleading with those behind such destruction to desist as nobody in the world destroys facilities that are supposed to help them.

Osinbajo, who spoke yesterday while receiving a delegation of Urhobo leaders at the Presidential Villa, lamented that, “so much damage is being done, governments will come and go, but this damages will ultimately destroy people’s livelihoods, aspirations and their future”.

There has been increase in attacks on facilities in the oil-rich as some militants on the 8th of November blew up the Trans Forcados export line located in Batan community in Warri, Delta State. The affected line, which receives crude from the Batan flow station and feeds the Forcados export terminal, is operated by the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company, PPMC.

The Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate had accused the President Muhammadu Buhari government of plotting to wage war against the people of the Niger Delta, warning the government that “We shall bring Nigeria’s daily output quota to below 500,000 barrels”.

But Osinbajo, according to a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, declared that: “nobody else anywhere in the world will destroy the facilities meant to help them, there is no benefit whatsoever from the destruction.”

He maintained that the Buhari administration would continue its outreach to leaders and groups in the Niger Delta in seeking peaceful solution to the crisis, and called for understanding, especially on the part of the leaders of the region, stressing that destruction and damage “do not lead to anything good.”
