Nigerian Teenager Among Winners Of Microsoft Contest

A Nigerian teenager Olubunmi Agusto has been awarded second prize at the the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship.

The 15-year-old won the medal in the final round in Microsoft Word 2007, P.M. News reports.
The competition held in California, USA, hosted 400,000 candidates from 130 countries, with 123 people making it to the finals. The first place in the championship carried out since 2002 and considered the most popular contest testing Microsoft Office skills, went to Dominique Howard.

The winner received $5,000 scholarship The Nigerian however beat the UK representative Hannah Wilson who came third and received scholarship in the amount of $2,500 scholarship.

Margo Day, vice president of US education at Microsoft commented on the goals of the contest:
“Microsoft Office Specialist certification gives students a way to become tangibly prepared for college or a career. Today’s job market requires computer proficiency and all individuals who earn certification have a valuable credential proving their skills. We congratulate the top winners for their extra efforts and look forward to seeing how they put their superior Microsoft Office skills to use in their future endeavours.”

According to the organizers, more than 740,000 exams were uploaded in the course of the contest and the winners can by undoubtedly called “an elite group of individuals who know how to use Microsoft Office tools effectively”.It would be recalled that in July another young Nigerian, Sulaiman Abdulkarim Isah, made his native country proud by winning the 18th session of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award.

Sulaiman came first at the event held annually to “encourage young Muslims to memorise and understand the Holy Quran, and to spread the Quranic values of peace and love”.
