Nigeria Has 67 Million Inactive Phone Lines - NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says inactive phone lines in the Nigeria, have increased from 65,186,763 in May to 67,331,498 in June 2016.

This shows that of the 217,150,404 connected lines in the country, only 149,818,906 numbers were active. This represents a 70% activity rate in the telecoms industry.

Of the lot, GSM operators had 63,934,119 inactives, while CDMA operators had 3,210,489 inactive phone lines and the Fixed Wired/Wireless networks had 182,662 inactive phone lines.

Nigeria’s teledensity, a measure of the percentage of a country’s population with access to telecommunications services as determined by the subscriber base, climbed up to 107.01 per cent in June, compared to 106.32 per cent in May 2016.

“Nigeria’s teledensity is currently calculated by the NCC on a population of 140 million people.
“The data showed that some subscribers purchased SIM cards, but dumped them after using them for some time,’’ the report said.
