Divorce is one thing people never thought of when saying ‘’I do’’. It sounds almost impossible to claim you love someone so much and you have to go your separate ways.

Even in friendship, when a friend decides to quit, we feel the hurt for a while. So many people go through divorce out of no choice, regardless of what society or religion says. What comes to your mind when you hear divorce? I’m so sure you think of sexual infidelity. But contrary to that, there are several reasons why couples decide to split and go their separate ways.

WRONG PERSPECTIVE ON MARRIAGE
Number one reason is getting in for the wrong reason or purpose. So many people think marriage is a bed of roses where all they see is comfort. Some on the other hand get married for financial security, to escape pressures, to satisfy sexual urges and so on.

When you get married for the wrong reasons, you struggle to stay happy always. You always fantasize on the saying of ‘’happy ever after’’. It becomes though enduring when you are not getting all the things you have stayed dreaming of. So people rather go out instead of holding on. Marriage is real hard work and not for kids.

FLOW OF COMMUNICATION
Communication is one basic reason why couples divorce. Couples have misunderstandings, but inability to have a healthy communication and resolve issues amicably is why many split.

Couples now prefer discussing their marital issues with third parties. Some even communicate using abusive words, unromantic words or other words that turns the other partner off. Communication is important to sustain a relationship. When communication is out, there is a big problem. Couples must be able to communicate maturely without hurting.

SUPPRESSED INTIMACY
Truth is you can’t expect to get all the benefits you enjoyed while courting in marriage. Sometimes in marriage, someone feels not so well, angry, tired, not so in the mood and many more. It is normal to feel this way, but it shouldn’t be allowed to linger on for long.

When intimacy is suppressed, it has a way of affecting the other partner and this causes some sort of withdrawal. If not thoroughly checked, the couples become strangers and find it difficult meeting needs. This leads to divorce as couples feel unloved. The importance of intimacy cannot be swept away. Intimacy strengthens the bond between couples.

FINANCIAL ISSUES
Finance is the reason why many couples split. When one partner is a prudent spender and the other a foolish spender. This is as a result of incompatibility in finance. When there is no financial goal set aside, it triggers issues in marriages.

Also, if a partner is hardworking and the other is a liability, it causes frustration and uncontrolled anger over time. When there is constant argument over who spends more, who gives less and so on, it causes rift and eventually divorce. Once couples can relate their financial needs with wisdom, conflict is minimal.

ABUSE
Abuse could come in different forms. A partner that is emotionally, physically, mentally and sexually abused is more likely to quit and find someone better. When you are constantly insulted, hit, ignored, it has a way of playing down on your being.

As much as society or religion does not support divorce, people run far when constantly victimized by their spouse. Abuse is not healthy in any relationship, so should not be condoned. Couples run from relationships that makes them feel less or makes them lose their self-esteem.

CHEATING
Infidelity is one major reason why so many couples split. It is rare to see couples stay together after one partner cheats. Whatever the reason for cheating is, it is never a good option.

Many people divorce as a result of cheating, they find it difficult to come in terms and trust the cheating partner. It is a major turn off in relationships and should never be considered. When a partner constantly cheat on the other, divorce is inevitable. Depending on the kind of partner, some may decide to stay while some just quit.

Divorce is never a good idea, it has a way of affecting a person’s mental and emotional being. The rate of divorce is increasing because couples lost touch easily, they find it difficult communicating and settling issues amicably.

If you find someone good, hold on to them, make them happy, be at peace with them and avoid issues that could lead to split.
