Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has opened up on why his once-close relationship with Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy allegedly fell apart, claiming false rumours about Burna Boy’s girlfriend caused the rift.
Speaking during a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, Shatta Wale said Burna Boy personally asked him to pick him up from the airport during one of his visits to Ghana. According to him, he went all out to make the singer’s stay comfortable by providing him with accommodation, vehicles and other support.
“I was treating Burna Boy in Ghana like a king. I was showing him the roads of Ghana… I gave him a house, gave him cars. He wasn’t wasting money in Ghana,” Shatta Wale said.
The Ghanaian star alleged that after falling out with some members of his team, they began spreading false stories about him to influential people in his life. According to him, they told Burna Boy that he had an affair with the singer’s girlfriend during the trip to Ghana.
“They told Burna Boy that I was f¥cking his girl he brought to Ghana. He just bought it,” he claimed.
Shatta Wale said he made several attempts to reach Burna Boy after the Nigerian star’s career soared, but his calls and messages were ignored. He added that he even contacted Burna Boy’s mother, whom he described as being “like my mother,” but only received explanations for why Burna Boy was unavailable.
“I didn’t know they’ve told them, and he’s decided not to talk to me,” he said. “I just thank God that God has put Burna somewhere, but it hurts me that he didn’t listen to me to explain to him that this was what the boys were doing.”
