Social media commentator Daniel Regha has stirred reactions after criticising Burna Boy’s outfit during his performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, arguing that the Grammy-winning singer missed an opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s cultural identity on one of the world’s biggest stages.

Reacting in a post on X, Regha said Burna Boy should have worn an outfit inspired by traditional Nigerian or African fabrics instead of his chosen look. He also referenced late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, suggesting the icon would have proudly represented his heritage.

“Burna couldn’t even use the opportunity to showcase his Nigerian-African heritage by styling in a proper fabric inspired outfit. Fela would’ve represented.”

Regha’s comments came shortly after Burna Boy delivered a globally watched performance alongside Colombian superstar Shakira at the World Cup final, where the pair performed their hit collaboration, “Dai Dai.”

The performance drew widespread praise, but Regha’s remarks sparked a fresh debate about whether Nigerian artistes should intentionally incorporate more cultural elements into their international appearances.
