5 Changes Nigeria Has Witnessed Since Buhari Became President

President Muhammadu Buhari, who promised Nigerians significant changes, turns 73 on today, December 17th 2015.

After several attempts, Buhari became the president of the country when he emerged victorious in the presidential
polls under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress.

The mantra of his campaign was change from an old government to a new era.
As the President celebrates his 73rd birthday, these are 5 changes Nigerians have witnessed since he got to power.

1. Improved power supply

Anyone who resides in Nigeria would know without a doubt that one of the major problems of the country is the absence of regular power supply.

As soon as Buhari became president, power supply in several places became more regular for a few months before the recent dip in power generation.

2. Fighting Boko Haram

One of the failures of the previous government was its inability to effectively tackle the deadly Boko Haram terrorists that plagued the north of the country. Upon ascension to the presidential chair, Buhari has exerted efforts to see to the quelling of the Boko Haram menace.

He has given a December deadline for the Nigerian Army to vanquish terrorists.

3. Fighting corruption

Trhe Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has launched a crusade against corruption, and opened a can
of worms in the process. Several investigations have been launched into the disbursements of funds from the
previous administration, prominent of which is the probe into the $2 billion meant for arms purchase allegedly diverted by the ex NSA chairman, Sambo Dasuki.

4. Increased protest and clashes

In the spirit of fairness, while pointing out the good side of the coin, it is also pertinent to show the not-so-good side so it can be worked on. Since Buhari became president, it appears that more protests have occurred across the country for different reasons.

Notable among the protests are the pro-Biafran agitators scattered across states in the East of the nation and the recent Shiite Muslims protest.

5. Too frequent travels abroad

For a country with so many issues and problems to attend to, it appears President Buhari has made one trip too many outside the country since he became the president of the country. He has made trips to over 12 different
countries while fuel scarcity and inflation of goods hit the masses as the naira continues its descent against the dollar in the foreign exchange market.

Happy birthday to President Muhammadu Buhari!
