Appeal Court Upholds Buruji Kashamu's Election

The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, ruled Monday that Senator Buruji Kashamu is the validly elected representative of Ogun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly.

Kashamu had headed to the court after the Ogun State Elections Petitions Tribunal ruled in favour of Mr. Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The tribunal had nullified the election of Kashamu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and ordered the conduct of a fresh election in 109 wards to determine the actual winner of the seat. Dissatisfied with the ruling, Kashamu headed to the Court of Appeal where he has now prevailed.
