Ibadan: Man in court for alleged possession of arms, ammunitions

A 40-year-old man, Gafaru Ogundiran, who was found allegedly in possession of guns, was brought before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, on Tuesday.

Ogundiran, whose address was not provided, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful possession of guns preferred against him.

The prosecutor, ASP Musbau Lawal, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on Nov. 7, at 3.30 p.m., at Saki in Oyo State.

Lawal said the defendant was found with seven Dane guns, one pistol and four live cartridges and could not give a satisfactory explanation of how they came into his possession.

He said the offence contravened Section 417 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mr Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 and one reliable surety in like sum.

He thereafter adjourned the case until January 21, 2025, for hearing.
