Man Utd: Neville advises Van Nistelrooy on major change to make after Ten Hag’s sack
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has urged interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy to consider playing a three-man defence at the club following Erik ten Hag’s sack.
Neville believes Man United could benefit from lining up with a three-man defence in order to provide more solidity to the team.
Van Nistelrooy took over from Ten Hag after the former Ajax coach was sacked on Monday.
Man United parted ways with Ten Hag after their 2-1 defeat to West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday.
However, when asked if Van Nistelrooy could immediately instill a new identity in the team after Ten Hag departed from Old Trafford, Neville told Sky Sports: “Ruud van Nistelrooy will do his very best. I have thought for a number of months that looking at the players United have, they may be better suited to going three at the back, just purely because of a lack of a centre-back pairing and the full-backs, to be fair, look better going forward than they do defensively.”
