Clash between herders, farmers’ reportedly claim 5 in Adamawa

A clash between farmers and herders in Kukta community in Waltadi District of Song LGA, Adamawa State, has claimed the life of five people.

Many others are injured in the clash said to have occurred between the later hours of Saturday, October 27 and early hours of Sunday.

Houses were burnt down and many other valuable properties destroyed in the clash not previously associated with the district in view.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident Sunday afternoon, saying the state Commissioner of Police, CP Morris Dankombo, had deployed operatives to the scene and the situation had been brought under control.

Nguroje had released a statement on the clash earlier on Sunday and spoke of police deployment both to ensure a return to normalcy and to investigate the circumstances leading to it.

He had stated that the “violent altercation led to the loss of lives and destruction of property” but did not give the number of the dead.

He still had not disclosed the police version of the human casualty up to press time but available witness accounts put the figure at five.
