PRP slams Bauchi Govt over alleged N67.39bn security vote expenditure
The Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, in Bauchi State has berated the state government for allegedly squandering N67.39 billion on security votes over the past four years.
In a statement released by its State Secretary, Abdulazeez Haruna, and made available to DAILY POST, the PRP expressed dismay that while such a colossal sum was reportedly spent on security, the combined capital expenditure on education and healthcare during the same period amounted to only N47.79 billion.
Parts of the statement read, “This staggering disclosure, as reported by Wikkitimes Newspaper, underscores the glaring mismanagement and ineptitude of the current administration.
“What is even more troubling is that this is occurring in a state not grappling with severe security challenges like Boko Haram-ravaged Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa, or the banditry-afflicted Northwestern states of Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina.”
“Bauchi State is not confronted with any extraordinary security threats that would warrant such exorbitant spending on security votes. This is a scandal of monumental proportions, unprecedented in the history of our state.
“It is unacceptable that while Bauchi is battling multi-dimensional poverty, underdevelopment, and severe deficits in educational and healthcare infrastructure, a huge portion of the budget is being misused on dubious security votes, with no visible impact, leaving the citizens to wallow in poverty and neglect.”
This party therefore demanded that the Bauchi State Government provide a detailed account of how the security vote funds were spent.
“We also call for an explanation of why such an outrageous sum was allocated to security votes when critical sectors like education and healthcare are underfunded.
“The people of Bauchi State deserve to know how their money is being managed. It is unacceptable that the state government continues to operate under a veil of secrecy, leaving the public to question whether these funds have been diverted to enrich individuals or serve private interests.
“The PRP, Bauchi State Chapter, calls on all citizens to unite in demanding an end to this disgraceful practice.
“We cannot afford to tolerate such wastefulness and mismanagement of public resources. We will not relent until the people of Bauchi State receive the accountable and transparent governance they deserve.
