In 1951, at the age of 12, she began her music career by signing with Federal Records. Since then, she has become highly respected and influential in the gospel music industry, earning numerous accolades and awards for her powerful voice and uplifting music.

Early Life And Education

Shirley Caesar, a renowned gospel singer and pastor, was born on 13 October 1938 in Durham, North Carolina, United States, to parents Hannah Caesar and James Caesar.

She grew up in a large family with eight siblings, including Anne Ceasar Price, LeRoy Caesar, Virginia Caesar Reed, Cleo Caesar, Joyce Caesar, Lina Caesar Brown, Julius Caesar, and Solomon Caesar.

After graduating high school, Shirley Caesar enrolled at North Carolina Central College to study Business Education.

Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades and awards for her powerful and soulful gospel music.

Career

Shirley Caesar’s music career began in 1958 when she joined Albertina Walker’s renowned gospel group, The Caravans.

This experience honed her skills and brought her national recognition. However, in 1966, Caesar left the group and embarked on a successful solo career.

She became a celebrated preacher and evangelist alongside her singing and established her church, Mount Calvary Word of Faith Church.

This pivotal career move allowed her to spread her message of faith and inspire countless individuals through her music and ministry.

She released several gospel albums throughout the 1960s and 1970s, gaining popularity among African-American audiences.

While Caesar does not have biological children, she has two stepchildren she loves and cares for as her own.
