Reps member backs Otti for revoking Umuahia event centre’s C-of-O

The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Obi Aguocha, has described the revocation of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O ) of Trade More Event Centre in Umuahia by Governor Alex Otti, as a decisive action.

The revocation of the property has been attracting criticisms from some members of the opposition party in Abia, who said that the governor’s action may scare away investors from coming to the state.

But Agoucha, who is a member of the Labour Party, has drummed support for the governor’s action, saying that the revocation of the Certificate of Occupancy was taken to address the overriding public interest and concerns of indigenous land owners.

He applauded the state government’s plan to repurpose the site for a significant multi-billion naira terminal project, which he said would benefit the wider community and save the large expanse of lands from alleged underutilisation.

Aguocha also urged Governor Otti to extend this bold approach to other state properties within the Umuahia Capital Authority that were allegedly acquired and allocated for individual use and benefit.

“Umuahia is the state capital and has to grow beyond the myopic and selfish interests of the past,” Aguocha said.

Trade More Centre is located at the site of former Umuahia main market before the market was demolished and relocated to Ubani Ibeku, by a previous administration in Abia state
