Edo: Kidnappers free businesswomen after collecting N3m ransom

Two women who were kidnapped at gunpoint while returning from business trip in Edo State have been released by their abductors after collecting N3 million ransom.

The State commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegbeye, who confirmed the incident, however, said he was not aware of payment of any ransom.

“I am not aware of any payment of ransom. But the victims have been rescued by the police,” he said.

Waploaded reports that the women were abducted last week Tuesday on the Uromi-Agbor road in Esan North East Local Government of Edo State.

They were said to be returning home from a business trip when gunmen emerged from the bush and forced their vehicle to a halt at gunpoint before abducting them.

A family source to one of the victims, who said they were taken to the bush, added that the kidnappers contacted their families on Wednesday and demanded N15 million ransom.

He said the kidnappers, however, warned the families not to involve the police if they want their relations alive.

“After intense negotiations they settled for N3 million to effect their release. The families had to raise N3 million with much difficulties to free their loved ones.

“They were released to the families on Friday after the payment of the N3 million ransom,” the source, who did not wish to be named, said.
