Man, 40, arraigned over alleged attempt to steal 1,000 litres of petrol

A 40-year-old man, Oluwayemi Raheem, was, on Friday arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over an alleged attempt to steal 1,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) in Ibadan.

Raheem, whose address was not provided, was charged with attempted theft, to which he, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp Opaleye Sikiru, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 19 at Gastab Filling Station, Toll Gate, Ibadan.

Sikiru said that the defendant attempted to steal 1,000 litres of fuel worth N650,000 without the consent of the filling station.

He said that the offences were contrary to Section 509 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi, thereafter, adjourned the case till Sept. 19 for hearing. (NAN)
