Man docked for allegedly stealing goods valued at N500,000

A 22-year old man, Yusuf Musa, was on Friday, arraigned before a Zuba Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing goods worth N500,000.

Musa, a wheelbarrow pusher at Zuba Hansel, Abuja, is being charged with theft.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the complainant, Mrs Ebere Simon of Zuba Electrical Market Abuja, reported the matter at the Zuba Police Station on May 15.

Ogada said that Simon employed the services of Musa as a wheelbarrow pusher to convey her goods valued N500,000 from Hansel Zuba to Zuba Electrical Market.

He said the defendant took the goods to his brothers, now at large, who diverted and sold them.

Ogada said that Musa converted the money to his personal use.

The prosecutor said that during investigations, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of himself.

He told the court that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Abdulazeez Mohammed, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 and a surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should produce reliable means of identification.

He adjourned the matter until June 13 for hearing
