Lagos police arrest suspected human traffickers, rescue 10 girls

The Lagos Police Command has rescued ten teenage girls who were allegedly being trafficked to some West African countries for prostitution.

This was disclosed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin while briefing journalists on Thursday.

Hundeyin stated that the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence that a human trafficking syndicate was planning to move some girls out.

He revealed that a crack squad of the command located at the Gbagada area of Lagos swiftly got into action which led to the arrest of two suspects.

“The squad went into action to track the activities of the syndicate and within one week, two suspects were arrested, while 10 young girls between ages 16 years and 23 years were rescued.

“The girls were brought by the suspects from Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Ogun and Benin Republic”, Hundeyin said.

The PRO added that the operatives intercepted the suspects at the point of departure at Mazamaza area of Mile 2 – Badagry expressway.

He also said that police were on the lookout for other suspects, pointing out that those apprehended would be charged in court upon completion of investigation.
