The Garfield Movie Video Shows Chris Pratt Learning How To Become a Cat

“Meow,” said Chris Pratt. In a new The Garfield Movie promotional video (via DiscussingFilm), the actor revealed his hilarious ways of preparing for his orange tabby cat role in the upcoming Mark Dindal-helmed animated comedy.

Fresh off his previous voice-acting gig in 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Pratt has once again lent his voice to an animated feature, this time for the sarcastic and lazy cat named Garfield. “When you bring an icon like Garfield to life, there’s a physicality and curiosity and playfulness — a mischief at its core,” Pratt said in the video while imitating the behavior of feline buddies surrounding him.

He added, “I lost myself; I literally just ate and napped. And the doctors were concerned.”

Who else is in the voice cast of The Garfield Movie?

Besides Pratt as Garfield, the upcoming movie also features the voices of Samuel L. Jackson as Garfield’s biological father Vic, Hannah Waddingham as Jinx, Ving Rhames as Otto, Nicholas Hoult as Jon Arbuckle, and Cecily Strong as Marge. Rounding out the voice cast are Harvey Guillén as Odie, Brett Goldstein as Roland, Bowen Yang as Nolan, Janelle James as Olivia, and Snoop Dogg as Snoop Catt.

“Garfield, the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure! After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father — scruffy street cat Vic — Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist,” the official synopsis reads.

Based on a script by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgove, and David Reynolds, the family comedy is produced by John Cohen, Broderick Johnson, Andrew A. Kosove, Steven P. Wegner, Craig Sost, Namit Malhotra, and Crosby Clyse. Executive producers include Bridget McMeel, David Reynolds, Scott Parish, Carl Rogers, Simon Hedges, Chris Pflug, Louis Koo, Steve Sarowitz, Justin Baldwin, Peter Luo, and Garfield creator Jim Davis.

The Garfield Movie hits theaters on May 24, 2024.
