Baumgartner breaks Paul Onuachu’s fastest goal history

Christoph Baumgartner of Austria has broken a history held by Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu.

The RB Leipzig midfielder scored the fastest-ever international goal as Austria beat Slovakia 2-0 in a friendly on Saturday.

The goal came in just six seconds after kickoff as the midfielder fired into the bottom corner after skipping past three challenges.

He has now taken the record from Germany’s Lukas Podolski, who scored for Germany after seven seconds in a friendly against Ecuador in 2013.

Onuachu held the record of the fastest goal scored in an international involving an African team after he found back of the net ten seconds in a friendly between Nigeria and Egypt at the Stephen Keshi Stadium on March 27, 2019.

In the Iranian Professional League, Godwin Mensha, an unknown Nigerian player, also has a record of the fastest recorded goal scored by a Nigerian player, opening the scoring after just eight seconds in Mes Rafsanjan’s 4-0 win against Malavan in 2023.
