Police Arrest 300-Level IMSU Student Over Killing Of Final Year FUTO Student

The Imo State Police Command has apprehended a 21-year-old 300-level student of Imo State University (IMSU), Francis Marvellous, for the alleged stabbing death of Chinagorom Marvellous Kingsley, a 22-year-old final-year student of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO).

The incident occurred during a heated argument with personnel from the University's Man O' War Unit.

The incident occurred on March 29, 2024, at about 2200hrs.

Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye, said the suspect, Francis Marvellous, was arrested by police operatives on convoy patrol, who responded to a distress call from the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of FUTO.

He said that the victim’s body was recovered and taken to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he was confirmed dead and deposited at the mortuary.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, admitting that he had a heated argument with the Man O’ War Unit members and brought out a knife he concealed in his trousers, stabbing the victim to death.

“He mentioned three others who were with him during the fight, including his brother Francis Promise, Prince, and a man popularly known as Soji.

“According to him, the Imo State Police Command is working to arrest the other suspects involved in the case, adding that the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take charge of the case.

He said that the suspects would be arraigned in court upon completion of investigation, adding that the Commissioner of Police has warned against the spread of false narratives on social media.

He noted that the victim was not stabbed to death by Hausa/Fulani/Northerner, but by a fellow student.

“The command has called on the general public, particularly the staff and students of FUTO, to go about their lawful business and has warned against taking the law into their own hands.

“He also assured the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent future occurrences and has advised the students of FUTO to refrain from taking the law into their own hands as investigation is ongoing to bring the culprits to book.
