Akintola Akin Lewis is a Nigerian film actor, director, and producer who has been in the industry for over 40 years.

He is very popular in Yoruba films and sometimes in Nollywood movies. He is best known for his roles in Why Worry, Koko Close, Madam Dearest, Tinsel, Heroes and Zeroes, and King of Boys.

He is also a rector of a film school and a former senior executive director of several corporations. He is one of the Nollywood veterans who have contributed to the growth of the Nigerian film industry for over four decades.

Early Life & Education

Akin Lewis was born on April 7, 1957, in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, which falls in Nigeria’s Southwestern region and will turn 67 in 2024.

He is the only son of his parents, who were civil servants. He grew up in Zaria, Kaduna State, where he had primary and secondary education.

He went to the University of Ife, now recognized as Obafemi Awolowo University, where he obtained his B.Sc certificate. After his B.Sc, he won a scholarship to study for his Master’s at the University of Sophia, Bulgaria, where he earned an M.Sc in Dramatic Arts.

Personal Life

Akin Lewis is a very private person who dislikes sharing his personal life with the public. However, it is widely known that he is married to his third wife, whose name is not revealed.

He had two failed marriages before, but the reasons for the divorces are not disclosed. He is blessed with beautiful children, but their names are not revealed.

Career

Akin Lewis joined a theatrical club headed by Nigerian writer and dramatist Professor Bode Sowande in 1973, the same year he started his acting career.

He first gained attention when he portrayed the title character in the comic movie Why Worry on NTA Ibadan in 1980. Based on the series, he won the best actor in 1982.

He gained more popularity for his role as local playboy Emeka in the sitcom Koko Close. In 2005, Tade Ogidan’s film Madam Dearest propelled him to national recognition. He won the Audio Visual Award (TAVA) for Best Actor in 2010.

He has appeared in, produced, and directed several films over the years, such as Tinsel, Heroes and Zeroes, Silver Lining, Hotel Majestic, Jemeji, Borokini, Mind-Bending, Why Worry, Koko Klose, Alantakun, Were Alaso, King of Boys, No Budget, Up North, Fortunes, and The New Patriots.

He is one of the Nollywood veterans who have contributed to the growth of the Nigerian film industry for over four decades.

Akin Lewis spent over 20 years working in a business setting before becoming famous, eventually rising to Senior Executive Director.

He held positions with NTA, Globacom, and the former Owena Bank, among other corporations. Graig-Phillips College of Technology, a film school in Shonibare Estate, Maryland, Lagos, is where he presently serves as a rector.
