Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto is a politician and accountant from Nigeria. He was elected governor of Sokoto State in March 2023.

He is also a member of the International Bar Association, the Nigerian Bar Association, and The Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria Ltd. He also serves on the board of the African Export-Import Bank.

He was previously the Secretary of the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc and a member of the Nigerian Chartered Institute of Taxation.

Despite his hectic schedule as an accounts executive, administrator, and prominent politician, Ahmed Aliyu’s desire to further his education never wavered; he moved forward with characteristically firm steps.

Early Life

Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto was born on January 1, 1970, in Tudun Wada, Sokoto.

Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto acquired a Clerical Officers Certificate (Accounts and Audit) in 1991 and a Professional Diploma in Public Accounts and Audit (DPAA) in 1994 from the Polytechnic of Sokoto State’s Faculty of Administration.

Ahmed Sokoto graduated from Abdu Gusau Polytechnic in Talata Marafa, Zamfara State, with a Higher National Diploma in Local Government Studies in 1997.

Between 2000 and 2004, he got a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.

Career

Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto was a Jega Local Government Education Authority cashier from 1989 to 1992. 1993, he was chosen as the Sokoto State House of Assembly’s internal auditor.

Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto held the positions of Deputy Director of Finance and Supply at Sabon-Birni Local Government from 1996 to 1998 and Accountant in Charge of Salary at Wamakko Local Government from 1995 to 1997.

From 2002 to 2007, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto was the Director of Finance and Supply of Kebbe Local Government and the Chief Accountant of the Local Government Service Commission.

He was appointed Honorable Commissioner of the Ministry of Social Welfare and Culture and afterward as Commissioner of Health.

Ahmed Aliyu was chosen as Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was the running partner under the All Progressive Congress (APC) platform in 2014. Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Alh. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto was elected as Governor and Deputy Governor of Sokoto State in the 2015 general elections.

In 2019, he ran for governor of Sokoto state on the ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) but lost to the incumbent governor and PDP candidate Aminu Tambuwal.

He ran for governor of Sokoto State in 2023 and won, representing the All Progressive Congress party.
