He was raised in an Anglican household and received his education at the Durham Chorister School and St Bees School.

Atkinson excelled academically, achieving top grades in his science A-levels. He attended Newcastle University, obtaining a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

He then pursued further studies at The Queen’s College, Oxford, earning an MSc in Electrical Engineering. Atkinson discovered his passion for acting and comedy during his time at Oxford, becoming involved in various theatrical and comedic plays.

Personal Life

In 1990, Rowan Atkinson married makeup artist Sunetra Sastry after meeting her while she worked for the BBC. The couple had two children together, Lily Sastry, Isla Atkinson, and Benjamin Atkinson.

However, in 2013, at 58, Atkinson began a relationship with comedian Louise Ford.

Louise broke up with comedian James Acaster to be with Atkinson. In 2014, Atkinson separated from Sastry, and they divorced in 2015.

Atkinson and Ford have one child and have been in a committed relationship since 2013. In total, Rowan has three children.

Career

Rowan Atkinson’s career in entertainment began with his appearance in comedy shows for BBC Radio in 1979, where he showcased his talent for creating satirical interviews with fictional characters.

He gained national attention with his performances in The Secret Policeman’s Ball in 1979, where he showcased his comedic prowess through various skits.
