Carabao Cup: Why Pochettino substituted Enzo Fernandez after 31 mins against Newcastle

Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino has revealed why he took off Enzo Fernandez after only 31 minutes of their Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Newcastle on Tuesday night.

The Magpies had already taken the lead through Callum Wilson before Pochettino replaced Enzo with Armando Broja.

The decision left fans baffled, especially as there there was no apparent injury to the Argentina midfielder.

But speaking after the match, Pochettino: “He felt sick. He didn’t feel well before the game and then when he started to play, it wasn’t going well.

“He asked to come out because he wasn’t feeling well.”

The Blues are through to the last four of the competition after beating Newcastle 4-2 on penalties. The game ended 1-1 after regulation time.
