EPL: Chelsea identify £30m-rated defender as replacement for injured James
Chelsea have reportedly identified £30m-rated Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi as a replacement for their injured captain Reece James.
James has played just eight matches across all competitions before the injury bug struck him again.
The 24-year-old injured his hamstring 26 minutes into their Premier League 2-0 defeat to Everton last weekend.
As a result, the England international is now out for an indefinite period.
However, as per TEAMtalk (via Four Four Two), Chelsea are planning to sign a new defender when the transfer window reopens in January and are eyeing Elvedi.
Although Elvedi is predominantly a centre-back, he can also play out wide in defence, thanks to his versatility.
Eveldi’s current contract with Monchengladbach will expire in 2027.
The 27-year-old has made 284 appearances for the Bundesliga club, registering 15 goals and nine assists.
