A Nigerian man, Obinna who is one of the suspects arrested for allegedly gangr3ping a 20-year-old girl in Owerri, Imo state has escaped from police custody. 

This is according to investigative journalist, @PIDOMNIGERIA.

He broke the sad story in an update on X this evening November 27. 

According to the update, the police in Orji police station where two out of the three suspects who r3ped the victim were detained, claimed that Obinna escaped from the police cell today. 

The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Henry Okoye, confirmed the 'escape' of the suspect identified as Ihee Andrew' and said no stone would be left unturned to ensure the re-arrest of the Ihee and Divine who are now on the run. He added that the DPO in charge of Orji police station has been queried over the ‘’escape'' of the suspect.

‘’This case can never be swept under the carpet. The case has been transferred from Orji Divisional Headquarters to the Gender Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department. It’s shameful and totally unacceptable that DPO Orji and his men will allow Ihee Andrew ‘m’ aged 30 yrs, from Ahiazu Mbaise, a high profile suspect alleged of being a serial r3pist to escape from lawful. The DPO and other officers connected to this case have been queried and a copy has been sent to the Force Hqtrs. Efforts are on top gear to arrest the suspects. The two suspects at large have been declared wanted and I will share the picture here for all to see and assist the Police in arresting them.''
