EPL: They took all criticism – Souness tells Ramsdale to learn from Man Utd duo

Liverpool legend, Graeme Souness has urged Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to learn from Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay by fighting for his place in the Gunners’ squad.

Ramsdale was dropped from Arsenal’s lineup by manager Mikel Arteta after the North London club signed David Raya on loan from Brentford.

However, Souness wants Ramsdale to toughen up mentally and fight for his place in the team, just like Maguire and McTominay did at Man United.

Recall that both Maguire and McTominay were dropped from Man United’s starting XI by manager Erik ten Hag after a string of poor performances but have now forced their way back into the team.

“It is time for Aaron Ramsdale to do his own fighting, rather than his dad doing it for him after his appearance on a podcast this week. The Arsenal goalkeeper has to show what he is made of and deal with the situation in which he finds himself,” Souness was quoted by Sportskeeda as saying.

“I would ask him to look at the example of Harry Maguire. He took all the criticism on the chin, all the disappointment. He dealt with it and finds himself back in the team at Manchester United. Scott McTominay, too. He was being pushed out the door at the start of the season, and now he’s in the side. That is football. For Ramsdale, this a tough, mental challenge.”
