Early Life & Education

Now 71 years old as of 2023, Paul Stanley was born on January 20, 1952, in upper Manhattan, New York City. He grew up in the Inwood neighbourhood near Inwood Hill Park. Stanley’s parents, who were of Jewish descent, raised him and his sister Julia in a household that appreciated classical music and light opera.

Stanley developed a passion for music at a young age, and his favourite artists included Eddie Cochran, Dion and the Belmonts, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Little Richard.

Despite being taunted by other children for his congenital disability called microtia, which affected the shape of his right ear, Stanley found solace in music. At seven, he received a child’s guitar and learned to sing harmony with his family.

Stanley’s family relocated to the Kew Gardens neighbourhood in Queens when he was eight. He continued to explore his musical talents and attended the High School of Music & Art in New York City, graduating in 1970.

Personal Life

Regarding Stanley’s romantic relationships, he was previously married to actress Pamela Bowen from 1992 to 2001.

They have one son together, born in June 1994. In November 2005, Stanley married his longtime girlfriend, Erin Sutton.

The couple has three children: a son born in September 2006, a daughter born in January 2009, and another daughter born in August 2011.

Career

Stanley’s career took off when he co-founded the band Kiss in the early 1970s. Before Kiss, he was a member of various local bands, including Rainbow, Uncle Joe, and Post-War Baby Boom.

Stanley and Gene Simmons, another aspiring musician, joined forces and formed the band Wicked Lester. After recruiting Peter Criss as their drummer, the trio held auditions for a lead guitarist and selected Ace Frehley.

Kiss released their self-titled debut album in 1974, which was followed by a string of successful albums, including “Destroyer” (1976) and “Love Gun” (1977).

As a member of Kiss, Stanley established himself as the charismatic frontman known as “the Starchild.” He co-wrote many of the band’s most popular songs, showcasing his talent as a songwriter.

Stanley’s powerful vocals and dynamic stage presence contributed to the band’s immense success and enduring legacy.

In addition to his role in Kiss, Stanley pursued a solo career, releasing albums such as “Paul Stanley” (1978) and “Live to Win” (2006).
