Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan (born March 15, 1977) was an esteemed Indian Army officer. He valiantly served on deputation with the 51 Special Action Group (51 SAG) of the National Security Guards (NSG).

Regrettably, he made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty during the harrowing Mumbai attacks in November 2008.

Early Life & Education

Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, a brave and honourable individual, was born on March 15, 1977, in Cheruvannur, in the Kozhikode district of Kerala. He was blessed to be the only son of his parents, K. Unnikrishnan and Dhanalakshmi Unnikrishnan.

After some time, the family decided to relocate to Bangalore, where Sandeep had the privilege of attending the prestigious Frank Anthony Public School.

Career

In 2006, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan received the prestigious opportunity to join the National Security Guards (NSG), a renowned counter-terrorism force in India. After completing the rigorous program, Unnikrishnan was proudly assigned to the esteemed 51 Special Action Group (SAG) within the NSG.

On the fateful day of November 26, 2008, a horrifying incident unfolded in Mumbai. A group of ten heavily armed terrorists unleashed chaos and terror across various locations, including the renowned Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. In an act of courage and selflessness, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan fearlessly joined the National Security Guard (NSG) team swiftly deployed to the besieged hotel with the noble mission of rescuing the innocent hostages trapped inside.

Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan‘s actions during the operation were remarkable, as he showcased exceptional bravery and demonstrated strong leadership skills. His efforts resulted in the successful rescue of numerous hostages and the elimination of several terrorists. Tragically, Unnikrishnan lost his life while valiantly attempting to save a young girl, leaving behind a legacy of selflessness and heroism.

Personal Life

In 2008, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and Neha Unnikrishnan entered into a marriage filled with immense love and affection for one another. Neha played a vital role in supporting Sandeep throughout his professional journey. Although they were not blessed with any children, their bond remained strong.

Tragically, on November 26 of that same year, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan‘s life was cut short during the Mumbai terrorist attacks. While leading a group of commandos from the National Security Guard (NSG) to eliminate the terrorists from the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, he bravely sacrificed himself by rescuing hostages and ultimately losing his life to gunshots.
