EPL: Mikel Arteta names best team in world’s football

Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta has labeled Manchester City as the ‘best team in the world’.

Arteta spoke after Arsenal’s 1-0 Premier League win over the Cityzens on Sunday.

The Spaniard, of course, honed his managerial skills as Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager at Manchester City from July 2016 to December 2019.

Since taking over the helm at Arsenal, Arteta beat his compatriot just once in their first 10 head-to-head games across competitions.

However, things have changed this season as the Gunners beat Man City in the Community Shield in August on penalties before securing a 1-0 win at home in the Premier League this weekend.

Gabriel Martinelli’s 86th-minute strike from the edge of the box gave Arteta’s side the victory over the Premier League champions.

The two wins against Man City have come on the back of a painful 2022-2023 season for Arsenal.

The North London club lost the league title to Guardiola’s side despite leading the table for 248 days.

Speaking after Arsenal’s first league win against Manchester City since December 2015, Arteta said, via the club’s official X account (h/t @Arsenal): “We have beaten the best team in the world today, by far in my opinion, and we have done it with a huge performance.”

“Going through some difficult moments in the game but at the end, living an incredible experience with our people here.”
