Tribunals uphold Gombe, C’River govs’ elections

The Gombe State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, on Tuesday, affirmed the reelection of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya in the March 18 governorship poll in the state.

The tribunal dismissed the petitions filed against Yahaya’s election by the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Jibrin Barde, and his Africa Democratic Congress counterpart, Nafiu Bala.

The duo, in separate petitions, challenged the return of Yahaya and his deputy, Manassah Jatau, as the winner of the poll.

The three-man tribunal, comprising Justices S.B. Belgore, Obo AwusaObo and Nsssey Ekannang, unanimously affirmed that the two petitions against Yahaya’s election lacked merit.

Similarly, the Cross River State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal confirmed the victory of Governor Bassey Otu in the March 18 poll. It dismissed the petition the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Sandy Onor, raised.

A three-person panel headed by Justice Oken Inneh determined on Tuesday that Otu was legitimately elected since he met the requirements to run for office.
