Mohbad: Osun youths hold candlelight procession, Oluwo appeals for calm

Thousands of youths in Osogbo, Osun State, on Wednesday, held a candlelight procession in honour of the late artiste, Aloba Ilerioluwa, popularly known as Mohbad, demanding a probe into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The participants, who all wore black vests with inscriptions demanding justice for the late recording artiste, held the walk across some major streets in Osogbo before they converged on the Freedom Park, where the event was concluded.

Speaking with The PUNCH, one of the organisers, Fisayo Aderemi, said police should extend their probe of Mohbad’s death to the activities of the Malian group.

She said, “We want the police investigating panel to review the treatment he (Mohbad) was given at the hospital before his death. We also want the police to look into the issues of the Malians. The deceased summoned the courage to leave the cult and his life was under constant threat regularly before his death. We should not let him die in vain.”

Meanwhile, Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has pleaded with those protesting the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death to be calm and civil in their conduct.

This was contained in a statement signed by the monarch’s Press Secretary, Alli Ibrahim, obtained in Osogbo on Wednesday.

The statement read in parts, “The demise of the rising artist, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba popularly called Mohbad was a colossal loss to Yorubaland, Nigeria and the world at large. I commiserate with his immediate family and the entertainment industry.

“While calling on the government to ensure justice prevails in the circumstances surrounding his death, I appeal to the protesting youth to be calm, civil in their conduct and public demonstration. The ardent lovers of Mohbad are enjoined to leave the street and go home. The protest may be hijacked by hoodlums if not properly managed.

“Stakeholders are already working to ensure justice for Mohbad. The youth should cooperate with the government by conducting themselves in a peaceful manner.”
