Early Life and Background

Born in 1961, Maria Victoria Henao hails from Colombia. Her parents, Carlos Henao Vallejo and Leonor Zuleta, originate from the small Palmira Valle Del Cauca community. In her upbringing, she was accompanied by her sister, Pastora Henao Bayen, and her brother, Carlos Mario Henao Vallejo, who had affiliations with Pablo Escobar.

Personal Journey

At the age of 13, Maria Victoria Henao’s path intersected with that of Pablo Escobar, facilitated by her brother’s association with him. Their connection was swift, leading to a deep and immediate bond. However, her family harboured reservations about this alliance, fully aware of Pablo Escobar’s involvement in unlawful activities. With her brother linked to Pablo Escobar’s operations, Maria Victoria Henao and Pablo Escobar chose to elope to cement their relationship.

At the young age of 15, Maria Victoria Henao entered into marriage with Pablo Escobar. Despite the absence of familial support, she bore their first child, Sebastián Marroquín, when she was only 16. Following this, their daughter, Manuela Escobar, was born in 1984.

Maria Victoria Henao was Pablo Escobar’s wife until 1993 when the Colombian narco-terrorist was killed by Colombian law enforcement on the rooftop of a Medellin neighbourhood.

She was widowed at only 32 years old.

The lady was married to Pablo Escobar for 17 years, and although the world might think very negative things about Escobar, to Maria, the drug lord made her feel like a princess.

Maria Victoria Henao’s understanding of her husband’s activities was initially limited to his purported real estate endeavours. However, as time progressed, she realized the man she loved was entangled in a web of infidelity and extramarital affairs. One such relationship was with journalist Virginia Vallejo, which was widely known. Despite her knowledge of Pablo Escobar’s transgressions, Maria Victoria Henao chose to remain steadfast.

The dramatic climax of Pablo Escobar’s life occurred on December 2, 1993, when he was killed by Colombian police with U.S. involvement. While allegations emerged of Maria Victoria Henao’s complicity in her husband’s illicit activities, concrete evidence was lacking. After 15 months, she and her son were released from custody, their connection to his operations unsubstantiated.

Now a respected lecturer and architect, her son authored the renowned book “Pablo Escobar: My Father.” In contrast, her daughter distanced herself from the family’s legacy and has refrained from discussing her father publicly.
