Bundesliga: Boniface surprised by impressive start at Bayer Leverkusen
Victor Boniface says he is surprised by his impressive start to life at Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.
The Nigeria striker moved to the BayArena this summer after severing ties with Belgian club Union St Gilloise.
The 22-year-old settled down quickly in his new environment, scoring four times in the opening four games of the season.
Boniface was named the Best Player in the Bundesliga for August.
The players also won the Rookie of the Month award.
Boniface admitted he didn’t envision having an instant impact at Bayer Leverkusen.
The striker told Bundesliga.com: “I couldn’t have imagined it better. I didn’t know much about the competition and so I didn’t know what it would be like to go from Belgium to the Bundesliga. To win two awards in that first month.
“I have to thank my teammates and everyone who supported me. I am a bit surprised that I adapted so quickly, but on the other hand, I have always believed in myself.”
