Members of Agbor Gha Ihun vigilante group, on Saturday night, June 17, 2019, apprehended a notorious handset thief and bag snatcher, Chijioke Kanu, at the Ime-Obi area in Agbor, PoliticsNigeria reports.
While confessing, Chijioke said he is a member of a three-man gang that specialised in the snatching of handbags and handsets.
He listed members of his gang to be; Tony Collins Idegbekwu, a bricklayer and one Emma, an Okada rider.
He stated that he is the third child in a family of five children and was influenced to go into crime by Emma.
When quizzed further, Chijioke also confessed that he is a cultist and was initiated at the age of 17. He said:
"Collins, Emma and I, were on our way to buy weed around Oza House area in Agbor-Obi around 8 pm on Saturday night when we saw a young girl with a handbag, attacked her and made away with her handbag.
I am a Jambite, I want to read Political Science at the University of Benin-City. If I am pardoned I will not go into crime again."
Nemesis caught up with Chijioke after he was chased alongside his gang members when they tried to escape after the operation on a motorcycle.
A member of Agbor Gha Ihun, who coincidentally was at the spot of the incident, pursued the criminals with his car on hearing the screams of the victim.
Fortunately, his efforts paid off as he was able to hit down the motorcycle with his car, alighted and grabbed Chijioke while others abandoned their motorcycle and ran away.
Speaking to newsmen, the deputy leader, Agbor Gha Ihun, Monday Kiyem, also known as, Maduma, decried the rate of crime in Agbor, appealing to parents to do more by taking proper care of their children particularly, those between 16-20 years by advising them to stay out of crime
