Fred appears to confirm new Man Utd signing

Former Manchester United midfielder Fred has admitted he has wished Altay Bayindir well as the Fenerbahce goalkeeper nears a potential move to Old Trafford.

Fred's five years with United came to an end this summer as Fenerbahce parted with a fee of around £13m to sign the Brazilian earlier this month.

After that deal was confirmed, United returned to the Turkish side to open talks over goalkeeper Bayindir, who has been identified as a replacement for Dean Henderson after a deal was agreed to sell the Englishman to Crystal Palace.

A medical for Bayindir was held last week as United explored the feasibility of a deal and, according to Fred, the Red Devils have now wrapped up a move for the 25-year-old.

During his introductory press conference in Turkey, Fred confirmed he had already bid farewell to Bayindir.

"I wished Altay good luck when he left," Fred told the media. "He’s going to a great team.

"I gave him some suggestions about places where he could live and I told him it rains a lot!

"I think Altay is going to be very happy at Manchester United."

Bayindir is expected to arrive at Old Trafford once Henderson's move to Palace is finalised. A deal of around £20m has been agreed with the Eagles, with Bayindir set to be available for almost a quarter of that figure.
